Türkiye’s April polymer imports rise on month and year

According to ChemOrbis Import Statistics, Türkiye’s total polymer imports increased by nearly 11% on the month and 9% on the year to stand at 559,260 tons in April 2024.

In April, the top 5 polymer exporters to Türkiye were Saudi Arabia (114,030 tons), the USA (80,393 tons), South Korea (73,368 tons), Russia (45,036 tons) and Egypt (24,821 tons).

HOMO-PP

Homo-PP imports in April surged by 24% on the month but receded by 5% on the year to 178,110 tons. Saudi Arabia remained Türkiye’s top supplier with 56,163 tons, followed by Russia (36,128 tons), South Korea (26,797 tons), Egypt (13,176 tons) and the UAE (7,967 tons).

PP COPOLYMER

For PP copolymer, Türkiye’s April imports inched down by 0.7% from March to 39,570 tons. The volume soared by 19% from April 2023, meanwhile. South Korea overtook Saudi Arabia’s place and became Türkiye’s top supplier with 9,925 tons, followed by Saudi Arabia (7,228 tons) and the UAE (4,021 tons).

LDPE

In April, imports of LDPE decreased by 11% on the month but jumped by 32% on the year to stand at 30,530 tons. The US dethroned Iran and became the top exporter to Türkiye with 4,449 tons, followed by Spain (4,192 tons) and Saudi Arabia (3,581 tons).

LLDPE

Imports for LLDPE spiked by 31% monthly and 33% yearly to 73,930 tons in April. The USA remained Türkiye’s top supplier with 31,816 tons. It was followed by Saudi Arabia (23,769 tons) and Qatar (4,487 tons).

Meanwhile, Türkiye’s April mLLDPE imports increased by 26% on the month and 8% on the year to stand at 13,620 tons. The USA was the top supplier with 6,454 tons for another month, followed by the UAE (2,252 tons) and the Netherlands (1,632 tons).

HDPE

Imports for HDPE in April slumped by 17% on the month but were up by 6% on the year to stand at 89,580 tons. Saudi Arabia remained the number one supplier with 20,074 tons, followed by the USA (13,620 tons) and South Korea (10,188 tons).

PVC

Türkiye’s April PVC imports rose by 18% on the month and 29% on the year to 89,960 tons. The USA, Egypt and South Korea were Türkiye’s top 3 suppliers with 22,727 tons, 10,925 tons and 8,592 tons, respectively.

PS

Türkiye imported 11,980 tons of PS in April, down by 5% on a monthly basis. The yearly comparison also indicated a loss of 11.5%. Iran overtook Belgium’s place as the number one supplier with 3,759 tons, followed by South Korea (2,661 tons) and Belgium (2,317 tons).

ABS

ABS imports in April soared by 46% on the month and 9% on the year to stand at 17,790 tons. South Korea remained the top supplier of Türkiye with 11,445 tons, followed by Saudi Arabia (2,024 tons) and Belgium (1,046 tons).

EPS

In April, Türkiye’s EPS imports inched down by 0.8% on the month but spiked by 37% on the year to 3,070 tons. Iran remained the largest supplier with 1,282 tons. It was followed by China (726 tons) and Austria (570 tons).

Meanwhile, Türkiye’s April imports of PET bottle jumped 151% on the month but decreased by 27% on the year to 4,660 tons. China overtook Malaysia’s place to become the top supplier with 3,075 tons, followed by India (624 tons) and Nigeria (121 tons).

PET textile imports in April gained 1% on the month to 6,460 tons. Yet, the figure was down by 27% year-on-year. China remained Türkiye’s top supplier with 3,943 tons, followed by Malaysia (704 tons) and Indonesia (306 tons).
